Creative Critical Reflection 1.          How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? Our product uses conventions, by using things such as kid-like stereotypes. Including things like messy kid’s drawings and skipping down a hall gives it the fun atmosphere that is meant to attract a younger audience. Most of these stereotypes are found in these types of commercials, including most Crayola commercials. Our product is not only meant to represent younger audiences, but those with creative mindsets and the ambition to express themselves. It was meant to send the message of being inclusive to those with or without artistic ability. By looking at most Crayola commercials and putting ours side by side, you can definitely see similar assets and conventions used all throughout. It isn’t something that’s meant to be sleek and organized, but messy and adventurous. Free-spirited individuals, kids or not, or most likely to find the pro

Commercial Blog

I really enjoyed this project!! Although at times having to do the work was a bit stressful, it was still an overall fun experience. Being able to go out and film with my friends is definetely a LOT more fun than having to sit and read from a textbook. It's one of the reasons why I like this class so much. After this, I am way more confident in my ability to do well in this class. For future group projects, I do intend to work with the same people, seeing as they're what made the experience genuinely enjoyable. This project really made me excited for future projects in this class. It's a good change of pace, especially since the days I have this class are the same days I have both chemistry AND math...which is fun (not). I'm just proud of the fact that although we had lots of reasons to be behind, whith some of us being abesnt a few times, that we were still able to get our work done in time. We're all happy with how our commercial came out, and we owe it all to

Going to Finish Editing Over The Weekend

In class today, we were able to use some time to work on editing our video. One of our partners, Kaitlyn, was unfortunately absent. She was getting surgery done, so we didn't expect to hear from her today for feedback. This did make it a slower process, but luckily we weren't really put too far behind. Although we didn't finish, we got a good amount done. Right now, we (more so me than anyone, as I am the editor) are working on getting the clips on beat with the music. We want it to sound as smooth as possible, and we want the vidoes to flow with the music. We decided against any fancy transitions, and are just having the scenes cut from one to the other. I can say with confidence that the commercial is coming out exactly how I pictured it. I was kind of scared that it wasnt going to come out looking the way we wanted, but it looks great so far! And I'm sure it'll look ten times better once we finish it. For future projects, I would love to work with Camille and

Missed the First Day of Editing...

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it to school today and talk with my partners. I made sure to let them know in advance, and luckily, they didn't really need me there with them to start the editing process anyway. Luckily, we finished a majority of our filming. They finished the last bit we needed to film today, and sent me the videos to look them over. They came out exactly like how I pictured them, thank god. I tried to make sure to stay close to my phone so if they needed anything they could just ask me. I was trying to get ahead of work I may have missed in other classes these fast two days I've stayed home from school. They did end up working on a good chunk of the editing today. It was mainly just something that Kaitlyn threw together last minute just so we could get an idea of how things were going to look like. It came out pretty good, and not to brag, I really do like how our commercial is coming out. It's almost exactly how I envisioned it to be. Now, as I

Filming Is Almost Done! And I'm Sick :(

Today, we were able to finish almost all our filming! Once we got in class, we went back and looked at our storyboard and our planning blog so we could start going over what we were doing. The only scenes we had left were all inside, which made filming pretty simple. Everyone else cleared out of the classroom to finish their filming so we had the room almost entirely to ourselves. I DID remember to bring my prop today (thank god), so we were able to make up for lost time last class. The prop is a 100 pack of Crayola colored pencils I own. For a majority of the time today while filming, I was the one filming, Camille was our main actress, and Kaitlyn was mostly in charge of prop set-up. We all were sort of co-directors in this process. When filming for our 2nd and 3rd scenes (our split screen scenes) w e had to take extra time to make sure the scenes that were going to be side by side lined up with each other. We had used Kaitlyn's phone to record the actual shot, and then sent t

First Filming Day Was A Success!

Today, my group and I were able to start filming for our commercial. We had to receive a pass in case we got stopped by school security, but luckily we weren't. First, we started filming for our fourth scene at the school bus loop. It was a bit hot outside but luckily we were in the shade for most of the scenes. Filming this scene only took two takes. The first one was mainly a practice take, but the second came out exactly how we wanted it to. I was the one filming the scene, while Camille and Kaitlyn were the two actresses. After that, we did walk around a bit to see if we wanted to try it out in a different location, but we ended up sticking with what we had. Before returning to class, we took a quick mid-production picture. We also had to stop to go to the bathroom before walking back. Once we got in class, we started filming for parts of our second and third scene. I had forgotten to bring one of props, se we could only film with what we had. We used Kaitlyn's 12 pack of
