Genre Research: Bird Box

 Movie Convention Research: Bird Box

  • One of the most popular thriller movies, featured on Netflix, is Bird Box.
  • The types of camera angles used is aerial shot, two shot, eye level, Dutch, high and low, and over the shoulder angles.
  • Some camera movements Bird Box included are close-ups and panning.
  • The costumes are supposed to have a vintage and weather appropriate look. Jackets, pants, long sleeved tops, blindfolds, and boots or sneakers.
  • The lightning continuously takes shifts. It can go from colorful and bright, to dark and almost pitch-black. The most common color shown is a dark green or black.
  • There is a lot of emotional acting in this movie. There is crying, screaming, and fear. They had to show some happy moments and then quickly switch to frightened.
  • This movie mainly used special effect makeup. Mostly focusing on the body rather than the face. It never had glamour makeup, it was all natural, bruises, or scratches on the face or body.
  • Some props Bird Box mainly used were survival items. Things such as blindfolds, bird cage, backpacks, a boat and paddles, and flashlights. They also use weapons such as handguns.
  • The setting is the ‘Shillingham Lane house,’ in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. Also, in the middle of the woods.
  • This movie is known for its ‘amazing’ sound effects. Diegetic and nondiegetic sound was used multiple times in this movie. Non diegetic sound was used for car noises, river rapids, explosions, crashes, nature, and bird calls. Diegetic sound was used for echos, screams, noises from stepping on things such as tree branches in the woods, and whispers.
  • Some editing that is prominent in the movie is zoom, cross cutting, split screen, and eyeline match.
  • Some elements used were cliff hangers and a protagonist vs antagonist relationship.
  • As we stated before we like these elements and plan to use them in our film. We like the suspense that is built all throughout the movie, but we don’t like how it is literally all throughout the movie.
